Tom Cat Boysen
His career started at the age of 6. His father was a singer and songwriter and gave him a Rossi Electric Guitar with a 1950s Fender Champ Amp. His Father went off to find fame and fortune...
The amp broke down a few years later and the guitar got put away. We all wish that amp was still around.
In the 4th grade the school offered music lessons, Violin was the first choice, that lasted about 2 painful hrs.
Next, Tom followed in his brother Dean Boysen's footsteps, tried his hand at trumpet. Over the next 5 years and 2 schools he won city wide competitions for his trumpet playing.
The allure of singing and guitar playing would eventually win out.
At the age of 14, Tom picked up the Rossi Guitar again, borrowed a Marshall amp, and destroyed the neighborhood, things were never the same!
All of this was taking place his home town of Oakland California, and By extension San Francisco. Founding member of the San Francisco based band "The Intruders" Tom Cat Boysen played most of the clubs and showcases in the 80s and 90's.
It was During this period Tom Cat was introduced to the guitar teaching Legend
Mr. Lorn Leber
Lorn Graduated from the Prestigious Berklee College of music Boston Ma.
Teaching out of his home in San Francisco.
Lorn taught many of the great guitarists from the bay area , too many to name and it is not my place to do so..., and fortunately me as well
It was during that time, Recording and Engineering took hold.
Thomas Brown, and new found friend introduced Tom Cat into the world of the founding members of Journey... by extension a new band called Merlin. Tom Cat went on a west coast tour with Merlin as a live sound engineer, {sponsored by the William Morris Agency} the end of the tour landed him Emeryville California, at Fantasy Recording Studios. With the temporary job of assistant engineer. Unfortunately Merlin's album never took off.
He was invited to audition with the Storm. A recently dismantled Journey Band, or at least a some of them reformed as a band called the Storm. With Ross Valley on Bass, Steve Smith on drums, Tim Gorman keyboards, and yours truly Guitar.
It never took off and Journey reformed. during this time,
I purchased a 'Prototype" Neil Schon Guitar , with Neil Schons personal signature on the head stock. Bought from Thomas Brown mid 80's. I still own the Guitar…
In 1996, I moved to Tucson AZ.
Jammed with the Sam Taylor Band with Heather Hardy on Violin at The Old Chicago Bar. Did a few open nights at Berkys started Broken Glass Studios , performed with various musicians and bands throughout the Tucson music circuit.
